How to keep mods after major upgrade ?

Let's say I bought and installed few mods. Then ABK releases next major update of the upstream product. What is gonna happen to my mods ? Will I lose them if I roll out Chameleon update ? Or I have to choose to go with standard package updates pace or leave it for good with my mods ?

Just an advice, if there's no need for an upgrade. Just hold off for now until we get answers first. It will be a huge headache if ever.
